Notes in the Key of Life

I’ve been invited to talk to a few hundred music and media students at Leicester College on Tuesday 8th November. They asked for a blurb about me and what I’ll be saying so I knocked this up…although it’s subject to change. What do you think? :/

Talk title: Reckless adventures in music media

Background: Music journalist Michelle Dhillon talks about her career experiences as a news journalist for the Manchester Evening News, Microsoft business magazines and why she’s given it up to start Rockhaq – the UK’s first music journalism blog for school and college kids.

Michelle says: “If you want to know what Kasabian would give up being in one of the world’s biggest bands for, what naughty things Morrissey got up to after he left The Smiths, why The Killers are the worst band I’ve ever interviewed and who my favourite interviewee of all time is – not anyone in the music industry – then you won’t want to miss this.

“Be prepared to tell me what you think about music, bands and who you would love to interview if you got the chance, I will ask what YOU think. If you want to ask me how to get publicity for your band or how to get into music media, come along!”

They also asked me to list ‘the biggest bands I’ve interviewed’ – this is who I added off the top of my head. Note to self: must get better at name-dropping on-demand.

Kasabian
The Killers
Franz Ferdinand
Pete Doherty & Babyshambles
Kano
The Hives
Beth Ditto
Foals
The Stone Roses, individually and minus Reni :afro:
