Ian Brown as Man in the Leaky Cauldron reading book in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabhan (2004)
So what did Christmas day bring you? For me, it was the startling realisation that Ian Brown really doesn’t have any excuse NOT to be involved in the much-anticipated Stone Roses reunion next year. There I was, plonked in front of the 50″ widescreen, far too full and thinking about going for a long walk, when I was confronted with none other than the ex-Stone Roses frontman making a cameo appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabhan.
I knew he’d done this as I remember reading about it at the time, back in 2004, or so. The thing is though, I hadn’t ever SEEN it before. And now, more so than ever, it just seems bloody ridiculous. Is this the real reason why he’s refusing to reform the ‘Roses, so that he can continue to indulge his more bizarre whims and fancies while the rest of us are left to recoil in horror? Ian – you were the frontman of a generation.Every move you made was not only impossibly cool but imitated by every bright young thing up and down the land. You sang “I wanna be adored” and you really bloody were…
Luckily, I did get to see the second coming on the 7th December 1995 at De Montfort Hall in Leicester and it was one of the standout experiences of my life. I was only 15 then and I’m 28 now and I must have been to thousands of gigs since, but nothing has compared to the euporia that those four guys on stage induced in every punter there. The only thing is, it wasn’t really the second coming. The second coming never really happened because drummer Reni had already left the band before they toured.
2009 will mark the 20 year anniversary of one of the greatest debut albums to ever emerge from a British band, The Stone Roses. Santa hasn’t brought me what I wanted for Christmas, but I’m happy to wait until 2009 for my dream to be realised. As you said yourself on the stage at Spike Island in 1990 Ian, “The time is now. Do it now.” Nothing else needs to be said.

well spoken!
Thankyou!
